Ken’s passion for jazz spans the entire history of the art form. He’s one of only two conductors to direct the Grammy-winning New England Ragtime Ensemble, while his university studies included classes in totally-improvised music with the legendary Roscoe Mitchell. But while Ken’s love and knowledge of bebop, swing and hard bop is strong, he has always felt that the electric guitar was best suited to an improvisational context that could take advantage of it’s full range of expressive and tonal potential. The Electric Truth is a vehicle for this music, showcasing Ken’s love of the music from the 60s, 70s and early 80s by artists like the Tony Williams Lifetime, Miles Davis, Jeff Beck, Freddie Hubbard and Herbie Hancock who brought a profound jazz sensibility into intimate contact with funky grooves and Marshall stacks.
The Electric Truth have been heard in venues across the UK and USA, including Colorado MahlerFest and the Elgar Festival. Their forthcoming debut album “Nothing but” is a collection of original tunes that seek to bring together groove and tones to bring joy to the soul and movement to the booty.
